Ok, so this question is for those in the UK. I found some interesting chocolates on Amazon that really whet my appetite. Which chocolates from the UK are the best ones to try out? I'd just like to try out that chocolate at some point. lol

I haven't had British chocolates in quite awhile. But I know that.

http://www.britishsupplies.com

and

http://www.britishdelights.com

sells them. So you might be able to get a sampler box and try various kinds. Good luck! European chocolate is truly superior to American, unless you go really local or extremely high quality.

Thanks for those web sites. I checked on Amazon, and they have a pretty interesting selection of chocolates as well from Europe.

I looked at the British supplies web site, and they have an awesome selection of that stuff. Thanks for the recommendation, Ileni.

Haven't heard of that one Dan. Galaxy is my favorite, but only the plain one not the stupid caramel one or anything. I've got some chocolate mint biscuits in the fridge, but they're not that great. Thought I might as well try them though.

Chocolate Mint Biscuits...those sound good.

So, what makes the mint different from the U.S. mint?

I'm a big fan of mint stuff.

Not familiar with British chocolates compared to those here except one: Cadbury. And I would say forgo this treat, not because it isn't good, but because it is the same as the American Chunky bar, but with a prettier wrapper & a bigger price, i guess because it is imported.

These are not British, but chocolate ice cubes! Mmmmm! So nice. Also truffles, which I believe, are actually made in America! Swiss, German, and of course, Greek chocolates are my favourites.

british chocolate has a higher cocoa content than many american brands. i get mine at http://englishteastore.com. i will look at the other places you mentioned as well.

Might be cheaper just to cultivate a friendship in England and pay them the money it costs to post it over.

I like Cadburys! it is the most popular brand of chocolate here I think. there is quite a good selection of chocolate bars under that label so if you don't like one type it is worth persevering until you find another that you do! personally I like dairy milk the best! Galaxy is also very nice as a previous poster has already pointed out, it has a very smooth and creamy texture. Green and blacks also do good chocolate, all their chocolate is fair trade and although a little more expensive it is reduced in fat and again their are lots of different types including the really dark chocolate which has a very high coco percentage. Finally there is thorntons! it is fairly expensive and considdered very decadent chocolate but it is worth trying if you ever get the opportunity! I do think we have better chocolate over here! that hersheys stuff just doesn't compare! *grin*

Thorntons is filth! It used to be excellent, but over the years, it's just gotten worse and worse. There's hardly any cocoa in the stuff any more, and it's just turned into another high street shop. All of its quality went out the window along with its class. The only really good, truly good I mean, chocolate comes from Belgium.

american's we can get cadberry bars here but they are made supposedly for our taste and not nearly as delicious as the british counterparts

Hi, I got lots of Brittish and European chocolates for christmas. A Large Galaxy, a big Toblarone whitch I think is from Switerand and Lindors and Sea shells chocoate which is Belgian. I love Belgian chocolate to.

Hello Chocolate_girl,

I would say my favourite chocolate has to be dark chocolate.

I like Green & Blacks in particular Maya Gold. I also have a preference for the Lindtt 75% Cocoa & Divine.

I am not keen on milk chocolate. The milk was originally added as a cheap bulking agent. Normally milk chocolate is of much lower quality.

Out of the milk chocolate I would say my favorite is Bueno. Good chocolate can be got in Peru, Ecuador, Brazil.

I agree with funkymonkey : Thortons have really dropped in quality and you are paying primarily for a name and some fancy wrapping. (You are not going to eat the box after all). :D

I don't know much about dark chocolate exsept it is supposed to be better for you. The greens blacks sounds good.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm very picky when it comes to chocolate and only eat the best. If it's the decadent kind, I'll eat it. I don't do low fat or low quality. I've only found one American chocolate to truly compare with European and they do a spectacular job of it! They're called Lee Sims chocolates and they're in Jersey City, NJ, so very local for me. They're family-owned, make the chocolates themselves, actually answer the phone when you call and handle all aspects of your order on-premises. And the chocolate is out of this world!

Girtrude Hawks is also pretty good, though still not on the level of Lee Sim's.
